Message of the Day: Joblessness is the pandemic before the pandemic. Pandemic itself promotes
joblessness. Executive joblessness is rearing its ugly head. Many are lost
when it come to getting the job they want or the position commensurate with
what they have. How do you hunt for job or placement in the job market that
parades surplus candidates? The
children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light
says our Lord Jesus Christ. We write today to give our youth and other job
hunter some helpful tips on job hunting any where in the world.
Let us give two examples that showed the way forward. A man
was running for the office of Vice Chancellor in a Federal University.
Seventeen others were running for the same office. He emerged above all others
and became the Vice Chancellor. What happened? One of his relatives repolished
his C.V, took it to a printer and got out a remarkable document in those days.
His C.V turned out to be above peers. Another example, an architect has a one
year experience when he applied for a job requiring five years experience in
the profession. He was invited with the comment that his C.V singled him out as
somebody they will like to meet. Polish your C.V. Note what make you
remarkable. Identify your unique selling point. Have good online presence.
Don’t omit networking.
To move on, get to know that you are your best Public
Relation Officer. This is what we call self promotion. Self promotion is not
bragging. It is not telling lies of what you are not. Whoso
boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain. Proverbs
25:14. Put up what makes you a person in demand in the key area you want to be
employed. Self promotion is making yourself uniquely marketable.
Study the style of Paul, the Apostle to the
Gentiles, he said, I magnify my office. He gave us guidelines on self promotion
that maketh to be a winner and not an empty boaster. The world will say lay
your cards open on the table. Paul would not also miss out on the divine and
the God’s factor. Paul’s letters were described as weighty. Let your writings
speak for you: your covering letter to your C.V and the post-interview letter
of thanks.
Paul wrote as a caution to self promotion: But we will
not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of
the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 2Corinthians
10:13. Glory in God Paul
admonished. What is more, let God surprise you as you make prayers your strong
option.
From You to
God: My God direct my steps into high
stations in life in Jesus name.
Application:
Put your candle upon bushel, let not
your glory be covered.
Footnote: self promotion is a personal commitment to market yourself.
